Hey guys, I just bought a Yamaha f115 2001. Looking for controls as I am switching from mercury. Looks like the 703 is what I need. Online it seems that they come with different harnesses, would like to buy before my engine arives. Should I wait or can I buy used with some confidence thay will work.

THANKS

EDIT: Sorry, boatman. We don't allow solicitation to buy on the forum. If someone has what you seek they may PM you, where it is private and none of our business. :)

Re: need Yamaha controls

depends.
do you need flush mount, side mount or binnacle mount? do you have the correct digital or analog tach?
what other guages do you plan to use?

Re: need Yamaha controls

Sorry, Didn't mean to break the rules. If someone has what I want how do I handle that? Can I get ahold of them offsite?

Anyway....Right handed side mount controls. I plan on putting in the multi-function digital tach. I have seen a few on E-bay and seems to have all the functions I may need. Any thoughts on the Pin number in the harness? My Merc. controls look the same but I'm sure the harness won't work.

The local dealer says any yamaha controls will work with the purchase of adapters...

Running a 90 merc 2-stroke now,,,Only guage in dash is fuel. Is the Digital multi-function guage enough for a four stroke?

Re: need Yamaha controls

ditch the merc box, the ign wiring is all wrong even if the proper push for throttle and pull for fwd may be correct.
you will need a 703 10 pin box with push for throttle, they made it both ways.
you will need to make sure your digital tach has the 3 dip switches behind the rubber plug and is set for 2 wire sender,12 pole alt AND 4 stroke or the alarm visuals wont work. you wil need the trim harness, also contains the alarm visual wiring, from the engine to the tach and the power feed harnes from the 703 to the tach.
if the correct parts are used, refer to the 05 rigging and/or the 06/07 Marine technical guide. its all simply plug and play.
if the wrong tach is used the tach function will still work but the trim and the visual alarm indicates wont.
there is a tach rigging kit that has ll the correct parts for instllation to that motor.

Re: need Yamaha controls

Thank you Rodbolt...I was trying to save a buck,,,but sounds like I shold just order all from local dealer. Most folks are happy with them and I am sure to get correct harnesses. Thanks again. I have always rigged my own boats in the past. But we didn't need several harnesses. My other concern was that Yamaha may have changed harnesses and I would end up getting wrong one.

Re: need Yamaha controls

thats why I refered you to the rigging and tech guides.
in the past 6 years there have been about 4 changes to the tachometer.
some can be delt with by using a 30 dollar adapter and others are just not recomended. I can alter the latest style to fit an earlier engine but it requires a working knowledge of both pre 05 and post 05 engine mnagements.
thats why I wont post part numbers either, to many to remember ,thats why they put out a rigging and marine tech guide every year.
