Hi All,
My first time at this site, so greetings to you al from Bodrum, Turkey.
I own a 1999 Searay BR, equipped with 5.0L Merc I/O and AlphaOne, bought in Chicago when I was living there.
Recently, when the throttIe is in gear and rev up above 2400 RPM, Tacho needle bounces between 2500 and 5200 RPM.
At 5200 RPM, it feels like stalling or rev limiter is cutting.
However, engine, at idle speed or up to 2400 RPM, sounds very very healthy, again, when not in gear, no problem at all; 2K ? 3K even 5K RPM is very healthy.
When having this problem:
Engine temp 175 F. Oil pressure at 40s. Alternator charging at 13.5 to 14 V.
2 year old water pump. all filters and oils are new. I also cleaned all plugs with Wurth socket / contact cleaner, and put dielectric silicone for better contact. I cleaned the TPS but not the IAS.
I suspected Fuel pump, so I just changed it 3 hrs ago. Did not change the fuel regulator.
First, it felt good. Very healty when in gear. But when got 175F (normal temp) it started to do the above description again... Waste of money on new pump
I dealt with 3 mustangs and never had this kind of problem on a V8.
It seems, it is doing this behavior when:
the engine gets its normal operational temp,
the engine is in gear,
it gets some vibrations due to waves / cruising,
right after 2400 RPM, which is the RPM for planing; so engine load is one of the key aspects.
What could it be?
IAS?
Engine management unit? (we call it the brain)
Fuel regulator? (crappy unit when compared to Aeromotive or Kirbin)
My fuel comsumption went up extremely as well. Usually, at cruising speed, 1 mile uses 1 liter of gas. Now it is tripled.
Did not check the spark plugs yet, if they are rich or lean. Will do tomorrow.
Thanks for all your input.
If you ever travel to this part of the world, you be my guest.
