Here my problem, we took the boat as we were heading out the gauges started going erractic, warning light started flickering on and off. We shut the boat down check connection seems to be ok, As we went to restart the main battery seem to not have enough power to start seem to drag, switch over to 2nd battery no problems starting. the gauge and light continued to be erractic as we limp back to port. the engine would die and had to restart serval times.

1988 cobalt 5.7 thunder IV, 350 mercrusier.

thanks in advance.

Re: needing help

Electricity originates at the batteries. You have symptoms of a bad ground. Check each end of each battery cable between the batteries and the switch. Don't just look at them. Remove, clean, and tighten them. Check the cable ends to make sure there is no corrosion where the cable enters the terminal. If there is, cut the terminal off and replace it or install a new cable. Since the issue appeared with either battery, that says bad ground or bad positive cable between the switch and the engine. The main battery appeared discharged because it was not being properly charged, again because of the bad connections.
