Guys, i have a 85HP Mariner late 70's to early 80's. when i go to put the boat into forward or reverse i have to have the warm up lever at least half way or the motor will stall. do you think i just need to adjust the control cables? I have new gas, new fuel hose, new gas tank and connections. Thanks!

Check your idle speed. In the water and in gear.

It does. The motor idles for a minute or so after I have had it in gear for a few minutes

it sounds like you may need to adjust the idle up a bit. A motor that will idle, but dies when you put it into gear is often a fuel issue.
