I have a 1990 6HP Evinrude outboard motor. Most recent I've been gettin spark and recently I got it started. It sputtered and ran a little. I took the carb apart and found that the float was sticking somewhat in it's seat, when dry. There doesn't seem to be any ridges on the needle valve. There is a red area running about 1/4 inch from the tip. There doesn't seem to be any blockage in the valve passageway.I guess I need to be thinking of replacing the seat. Do carb kits normally have this valve seat???

Yes, the carburetor kit should include a new needle, seat, spring and washer for the seat. Gaskets and float are in most kits too. Really every wearing part is replaced.

I mention the little tiny spring that goes with the needle and seat. It's job is to hold the needle onto the float, so when the float drops it pulls the needle out of the seat. It's really a necessity on those rubber tipped needles since they naturally stick. It's hardly anything at all, just a slight wire wrapped around the groove at the bottom of the needle, then looped over the float's arm.

Re: Needle valve seat

I lost the little spring, so that's the purpose of it.
