Neek a new kill switch key.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement kill switch key for this older control box? I believe it came with the Johnson motor that in controls?

I can't see any in the picture, but is there a number stamped beside the keyhole? An Evinrude dealer can order a new key from that number.

i lost mine on a jetski and went to Wally World - they have one that is a rope with about 8 different ends on it. One of those should work.

Are you looking for the key or the lanyard?

I was referring to the clip that attaches to a lanyard and looks like a Y or chicken foot. My last boat had a Mercury and it had a toggle switch and when you removed the lanyard it moved the switch and shut off the motor. The motor would not run without the lanyard clip positioned in the run position. The operations manual for this switch states it will run with it removed by states it should be run with it attached. I do not understand how that works but it run with out it. I assume that it must be spring loaded upon placing it on to the switch and then when its removed shorts out the electric to the motor until you restart it. If you know how it works I would really like a simple explanation of its workings. Thanks

I confess I'm not familiar with that particular model, but that is the purpose of it. The lanyard clips to your life vest, and when you fall overboard it yanks free of the switch and turns the motor off. Don't laugh, I personally know of a couple of guys that fell out and the boat went around in a circle and came back to run over them. Both guys now have a nice headstone.
