Hi yo all!
I have a 2005 Larson 208 LXI w 5.0 Volvo Penta (with original controls).
Last week we were on the water...had stopped for a while to swim...got back in the boat, started the engine...I pushed the nuetral button and advance the throttle to smooth the idle. When i tried to 'come back up' to the neutral position....the neutral button did not pop out. So in other words...the engine was running...i could move the shifter to the forward and reverse... the engine would increase RPM's ...but not go into gear. We had to be towed in.
Next morning...boat on the trailer....had my Son at the prop...engine NOT running...I moved the shifter to forward...the prop did not 'lock into gear...moved the shifter to reverse and the prop lock locked in gear.
Took the boat out that day... shifter worked as normal....and has not had any more issues.
I would like to solve that issue if possible...can I spray a lubricant on the shifter where the 'neutral' mechanism meshes with the shift lock?
Sorry to be so long winded...Thanks for your help.

Thanks...I noticed you said 'Hope' :)). My controls have been stiff for last couple of years. When replacing cables....should I replace both throttle & gear cables at the same time ?? AND do you think I should expect to replace the controller as well?

Thanks Again,
Mark

Ayuh,..... I'd take it apart, clean it up, then lube everything, before I spent any money myself,....
While it's apart, you can test the cables,....

Agree. Pull it apart and do some maintenance and lubrication
