My 96 Mercury 225 outboard "occasionally" shuts down for a brief second, under load, while cruising around 2900-3200 rpm. I've ben told it is likely the neutral interrupt switch. Is this likely, and if so is it an adjustment or should I look into replacing??

Re: neutral interrupt switch

Don't think it would be the neutral start switch as this only comes into play while trying to start however it could be the safety lanyard switch, see if you can check the connections on the back and make sure it is all the way up, have seen some that look like they are up but not all the way and the engine won't start (will turn over but no spark).
