Neutral safety switch Johnson 25hp

I have been reading and getting great info. from this site. I just realized that my Johnson 25hp electric start, 1985 model will start in gear. I just read that this is not supposed to happen and it could be dangerous. Can someone please help me correct this problem with the install or proper wiring of a neutral safety switch. Thanks!

Mine is out also, but it's less of an issue for me since it's a pull start.

Do you have a control box, a quick check shows a neutral safty switch in the control box. Can you supply a model number so we can look at your specfic motor?

The safety switch should be located on the plastic shifting linkage on the right side of the motor. Mine only has one wire connected to it.

Thanks I did find it. This engine starts in gear, any idea how to test if it is the switch or something else. Any help will be appreciated.
