Does anybody know how to test a neutral safety switch off the boat. Two terminals and the plunger. Does it need electricity running through it?

Thanks.

Connect the leads of an ohm meter to each of the pigtails.
With the rollerarm extended (switch open) NO reading will be present.
Manually depress the roller arm (switch closed) and continuity should be observed on the meter (needle should peg if it is set to 1K)

Thanks for the info. However, all I have is a digital ohmmeter and the lowest settings are 200, 2000,and 20k. What is the resistance of a neutral safety switch, as such, what is the correct setting?

Ayuh,... It don't matter, yer testing to see if it makes, 'n breaks, not it's resistance...
