I have traced a dead short to the back of the throttle control. I am assuming that it goes to the neutral switch. My concern is when I take the back off of the throttle control things will spring out at me....do I have to worry or how should I do it as I have never done this before!

Re: Neutral switch on throttle control

Don't assume it goes to the neutral switch. I am looking at a diagram from OMC and the Neutral start wire is yellow in the control.. the black is usually a ground that comes from the engine back to the control and may feed a tach connector.<br />By assuming the neutral start I assume that your engine solenoid is not coming in to engage the starter. to start troubleshooting, what I do, is open the engine to view the starter solenoid, there will be two smaller wire terminals, one with a black (ground) and one with possible a yellow wire. just take a jumper from the battery + and jump it to the yellow (+) of the solenoid, it should kick in bypassing the console, the power (make sure the key is off or it may start up on you.. ).. if it turns, then try and get diagrams..and trace it out (even the cheapest manuals are super valuable).
