Ok, I will try this again. post got lost somewhere last time I tried.
This is a long story I will try to make short.
A few years ago we decided to go camping with the in-laws. In-laws brought some of their close friends along. Friends had just bought a brand new pickup, coleman popup camper, and 16' Bayliner. The morning of day 2 we decided to try some boating and fishing. Against my better judgement my 10 year old brother-in-law convinced me to go with. I really didn't want to because both of the friends had about a 6 pack of beer each, and it was onlyu 9A.M. Also the driver was legally blind, and refuses to wear glasses. He suffered an injury years back that damaged his eyes, and can only see about 10 feet in front of him. Anyway, we launch without incident and get underway, 7 of us in this boat complete with fishing gear and 2 coolers of beer. The friends were anxious to try out their new fish finder. As we cruised along the fish finder showed fish below, so the boat was stopped and 6 fishing lines hit the water. Not even 10 minutes later with no bites they decided we needed to move. I almost had time to reel in my line before we took off. This went on for about 2 hours when they decided this lake did not have any fish and the fish finder must be broken. So everyone settled for cruising the lake. As we sped across the lake I noticed another speed boat coming from the side ona direct collision course for us. After yelling over and over we finally got the driver convinced we were about to hit another boat. AT the last second he went from full throttle forward to full throttle reverse. This with 3 people in the bow turned out to be a bad move. Water over the bow, dumped everyone in the back onto the floor, dumped coolers out. After we collected ourselves we were once again speeding across the lake. By that time the water had become a little rough. I learned it was a bad thing for a large woman with extremely large breasts to wear a tank top with no bra. Especially when riding in the front of a boat on rough water. I also learned that a woman in this situation does not know when she falls out of her shirt. After 15 or 20 minutes of the friend hanging out of the arm holes I finally had to tell her to put them away. She stood up, shook them asking if I liked what I saw. I must say I didn't, but my young brother in law was impressed. We then decided to explore some of the inlets and rivers feeding the lake. As we were doing this my B.I.L. and I watched the depth guage as it read 6', 5', 3' and down. Soon after we stopped moving. It took a few minutes for the driver to notice we stopped. When he finally noticed, his answer was to open the throttle wide and push through. When he noticed the depth was very shallow, he lifted the outdrive a little and again opened it wide, spraying mud everywhere behind us. BIL and I had to get off and push the boat back to deep water. 20 minutes later we were again back underway. All went well for a half hour or so. Once again cruising at top speed someone in front observed that we were headed toward shore. Once again yelling over and over the driver finally must have seen the shadow and figured it was dry land. He changed course slightly, but missed seeing the sand bar that was extending 30 or 40 yards from the shore. The boat hit this dead on at full speed. Dumped everyone from the bow onto the sand, dumped brother in law overboard, dumped the coolers of water and beer, threw father in law into the windshield, and tossed all of the fishing gear out. A quick check found nobody hurt and the boat un-damaged. After getting us pushed back to water we again were off. We finally got back to camp. I decided not to go boating again, and was content fishing from the shore the rest of the trip.

This day I would have rather been at work.
After lunch he wanted to pull me water skiing. I decided I needed a nap instead!

Re: Never do this again

Makes you wonder, who was in charge of this ten-year-old, and let him go out in a boat driven by a drunken blind idiot? Was this also the driver of the brand-new pickup pulling a pop-up and/or boat?

Sounds like more than one Darwin candidate there that day, glad you survived to tell about it!

:D

Re: Never do this again

To Jtexas, my mother in law was supposed to be the adult in charge, but that is another story.

I don't think a lot happens to me, I just have a way of sorting all of the day to day crap and finding something amusing about everything I do. With my job that is the only way to keep sane and survive. My wife accuses me of being dark and morbid, but if you seriously look at everything throughout your day things will stand out. Then sort the good the bad and the crap you will be left with something that you can laugh at. Then when you share it makes even the bad tolerable. Don't get me wrong, I love everything about my life, I just like telling stories about the stupidity around me. And I can laugh at myself when I have earned the priveledge of being laughed at.
If you sit back and put life into pespective it is amazing what you find.
Thanks everyone for reading my stuff posted here.

Wow! 7 people in a 16' boat? Even with kids I know that may keep you within the boats capacity, but to fish with that many in a boat that small sounds dangerous.

Just glad nobody got hurt. I would have put on my PFD after the first incident or better yet, I would have put it on when I found out that the operator was blind!

Good story DD.... :D
