Jose's mother was having dinner at his apartment, which he shared with Maria. She couldn't help but notice how lovely Maria was, and how they kept looking at each other. "Mama," he told her, "I know what you're thinking, and I can assure you that Maria and I are only roommates."

A few days later Maria ask Joe whether his mother might have borrowed the silver sugar bowl. "It's been missing ever since she left."
"I doubt it, but I'll send her an email just to be sure."

He wrote:

"Mama,
I'm not saying you took the silver sugar bowl, and I'm not saying you didn't take it. But the fact is, it has been missing since your visit.
Love,
Jose"

Her reply:

"Mijo,
I am not saying you and Maria are lovers, and I am not saying that you are not lovers. But the fact is, if she had been sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now.

Love,
Mama"

Moral: never lie to your mother.
