I put nickel compound on my lower unit bolts of my '85 55HP Mariner. Two of them backed out. I have new replacements. Should I use the Never Seize ?? How much Torque should I apply to the bolts ?? My manual does not seem to have the value for this.

The bolts and washers should be torqued to 16 ft-lbs. The answer to your question is NO you shouuldn't use never seize on those threads. If anything, use a light oil. Of course the Mariner service manual does not mention lubrication on the threads, so I wouldn't recommend it. Hope this helps!

Hello<br /> if you promise to remove and reoil the bolts monthly I will tell you not to use never seize. if not the please never seieze it or use special lube 101 or yamaha grease. baton rouge is saltwater and 85 mariners like to corrode in it. do NOT use any COPPER based anti-seize. anyway use good fresh lockwashers and tighten them securly. good luck and keep posting :)

Thanks for the advice. I used Never seize and torqued them to 16 pounds. I am also going to make it a point to add them to my pre trip checklist.
