Can anyone tell me if there are any 3.5 HP 2 stroke engines being made now besides the cheap junk Chinese ones? I am looking for some new 2 stroke engines. If not do you know where I can find some older ones that have been re-conditioned to like new. I like the tahatsu nissan type engines. I also have some tahatsu and nissan engines that still run but I would like to get them put back to new condition. These engines are getting hard to find, it is sad that everyone has gone to 4 stroke engines. Thanks Steve

Not sure why you need to get a reconditioned one, there are many old ones sitting around that have almost no hours on them.

These single cylinder motors typically shake a good deal and make more noise than the larger twin cylinder models, so they don't get used much. The noise and vibration can become annoying rather quickly.

Most people won't rebuild one of these small motors because you can buy one in very good condition for far less money than a rebuild.

If I could find some very good ones that might be an option but what I want are new ones and rebuilt to new specs is the next best thing. I use most of my motors once a year so I can not afford any breakdowns. I have 17 of these motors but perhaps 10 that are in good working order but each year finds them less dependable. I am flying them in 100 miles so it cost me more to have a motor break and have to fly in a replacement that it does to buy brand new. 4 strokes are too heavy, they do not fit in the floats and if put on the wrong side do not run. If I bought all new 4 strokes someone would lay one on the wrong side and swear they did not. I would entertain sending the entire bunch I have and having them rebuilt if I could find someone I could trust to completely rebuild them to new specs and not just go thru them and get them running good. I would also like to find a bunch of like new used ones if I could find them. I just do not know where to look. Thanks Steve

The two strokes are still being made by both Yamaha and Tohatsu, however, EPA regulations prevent them from being imported into the U.S.

The JohnnyRude 3-4.5HP series made in the 60s to 80s were the best small outboards ever made. A well cared for example is still a better outboard than anything in that range being made in the last 20 years.
