I am thinking of getting a 2009 25hp etec for a small fiberglass boat (4.40m) I have. The dealer told me that they wanted 250 to install the motor on the boat and said something about programming the outboard. the boat is 200km from the dealer and its a little hard to go get it and take it to the dealer and then take it back. i thought installing an outboard was fairly simple like bolting it to the transom, hooking up the throttle control box ect.. do the etecs have to be programmed as the dealer says?

I would try to find another dealer. Why would you want to buy a motor from a dealer that wants to charge more to get running. I would not buy a car that way.
