A local boat dealer who gets and sells boat and motor "packages". Of course there are situations where a customer wants a different motor and there is a swap. They have a new 2003 15hp 4 stroke, in the box, and have given me a really good price on it. Since he is not anoutboard dealer, per si, the price is for setting it in the back of my pickup and away I go.

My question...are there dealer type preparations and settings, etc. that should be done before I run it, or can I just check the oil and get some gas? I'm not too familiar with 4 stroke outboards.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: New 4 stroke prep

make sure you get the manual with it generally they dont come with oil so check and fill most 4 strokes have a 10hr breakin first 10 minutes on muffs at idle next hour or so dont exceed 2500 rpm nest 3 hrs dont exceed 3500 balance dont exceed 4500 but throttle up and down in the rpm range
