I have a new 4 stroke 8 hp nissan. It will not start with out the choke. Which is normal. When I Start it with the choke it starts fine and runs fine but at high rpms. When I push the choke in it dies. This is after it has been running and warm. The only way to keep it running is to leave the choke partly open. Is something out of adjustment or this normal.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the help
How can a new motor need to have carb cleaned? I could take it to authorized service center, but don't want to take it off boat and drive quite a distance if I could do it myself. I thought maybe something had come off in shipping or missed at factory. I will clean the carb and see if that corrects the problem.

Thanks again for the help.

How new is new? Did it ever run properly? Did the dealer do a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) on it, and give you the paperwork? If you ran the motor, and did not run the carb dry... then if the motor sat for a week or two with that gas in the carb... that would easily cause the issue. And, BTW, bad gas is not covered by any manufacturer's warranty, so there will probably be a cost to clean it. In any event, it is always possible that there could be something else wrong... but it does sound like a textbook example of a too-lean carb, caused by varnishing, caused by lack of running the carb dry.

That motor is at least one year old. Manufactured in 2010. Registered for warranty coverage on April 9th of 2011. There is a distinct possibility that you need to have the carb cleaned.
