just down sized my fleet last year [wife kept hers..] sold '84 23' proline 1991 yammie 200 o/b, 19' gaff o/b skiff, 9' whitehall dinghy, 16' motor/sail 9.9 cryslr skiff, 18 woodie peterborough.
needed a small, light cheap utility. just found a 1966 Starchief with no i/o but A1 trailer, just a bad floor and a few big dings. all still origional $600 Cdn. trailer tires, lights, bearings all good, just paid and left. kinda a repo from a prev sale that went south.
plan to cut down transom for a small'ish L/S o/b and potter around the Bay of Quinte, Ontario. kept my small sailer and our 23' sailing cruiser as wife loves to sail. like both but now prefer power for what l do. always had power boats in the background [or big,and up front] kids all have skiffs/carvers etc.

Nice project boat you have there pedo. Should fit the bill nicely for what you are planning on using it for!

Thx guys, best boat site ever.
1966 brochure shows ob pwr. 25-110 hp. Will 35-40 be enuf to putz in sheltered water at say 18-20 mph?
So much to read and learn. Had wood, glass and steel so this is a first, feels like a light aircraft inside, sort of a boating airstream trailer with a pointy end. Love the art deco dash and interior light. My hot rod buddy wants it for his '48 rat rod.

Might take a couple of hours to get to 18-20 with 35 or 40 hp, Ped. She would be happier with at least 75-85, even 90 for easier cruising and better fuel mileage. Pushing into the wind with a small motor won't do you or the motor any good. Others will give their thoughts too.

I missed it - What length is she?

18' 4" 890lbs dry, no mtr.
after my 200 hp yammi pushing a 2600 lb+ WAR, really want some fuel economy, but with a older 2 stoke.

nice boat, and welcome to the mob. whoever stitched up that interior cushion with the offcenter stripe needs to take some lessons from our resident seamsters here.

but twins are definitely not the answer if you're looking for fuel economy. think in terms of a range of acceptable size engines, then see what you can find on CL or Kijjj. agree that i don't think 35-40hp will be enough.

I'd put a 3 cyl yamaha 90 on the back would be a great mix of everything you want enough power to push her probably to the high 20's low 30's and decent fuel economy too.

Re: new addition to the fleet

thx for info, my son tells me l'm in the min 50-70hp range, but prefer 2-3 cyl for torque to putz along. maybe old evinrude etc.
btw, photog error, didn't center bow cushion after initial wipe down. already have ply for transon fix and so can't wait to get at it. but, light snow tues am and still 36F. too cold for this easter bunny. got my 19' skiff in the garage but this puppy is to tall. love the retro dash, even non working with a outboard.

Re: new addition to the fleet

I bet you could retro-fit vintage looking gauges into the dash. Tach, fuel and volts is all you need. After you find suitable power, of course.
