Hey guys I just purchased and am installing a jbl ma6004 320watt max 60rms amp that draws a max of 40amps it says. I am running 6 gauge wire 15 feet from the amp to the battery. My question is the manual States to install an appropriate fuse within 1.5 ft of thebattery. I'm not sure what type of fuse to install or what rating of fuse. Any help is always appreciated thxs

Re: New amp fuse question

Personaly I use the blade type ATO, I was able to find them at NAPA with a holder up to 70 amps. But their many other types around especially around a RV center. You can also use a breaker.

If your amplifier circuit protection is in the bilge- make sure you use an ignition protected type fuse or circuit breaker. I regular fuse can ignite the gaseous air fuel mixture in your bilge if it were to pop for any given reason. Its best to be on the safe side.

The fuse is there is protect the wire on the way to the Amplifier, not the Amplifier.
That is why the fuse is located close to the battery end.
Common #6awg wire is rated for up to 55 amps. A 50 amp fuse would be appropriate.

Don't forget that you will also need #6 wire for the Ground also.

Re: New amp fuse question

You can get the fuse and holder at about any auto parts store........I think wally world even sells them in their audio dept.

They sell the monster fuse that looks like a regular car fuse on steroids.......I bought a 60 amp inline fuse with a enclosed tube to house the fuse and it has hex terminals..........don't recall the name brand though.
