Re: new at boating

I've not gone to Catalina but have gone more than forty miles offshore in California waters.

Near perfect boating conditions can be had any month of the year in SoCal, weather permitting, but generally, the best and calmest time frame is from late August through late October.

By checking NOAA weather forecasts, you need to check the local daily weather conditions in the channel between LA and Cat island. Also be sure to check the forecast for the next two days, as a trend toward foul weather or unfavorable conditions in those two days needs consideration towards playing it safe and not making a crossing.
