If the prop is banged up then you hit something that will make it die, check your engine grounds first, make sure they are well fastened and CLEAN. If that checks out, take the starter off and open it up, inspect the brushes and brush cup for damage inspect the magnets in the motor for damage. Often a starters brushes will go bad and this will cause a big drain on the battery, and not give the starter the power it needs to turn a motor over, but it will spin fine without a load If brushes are damaged or springs are burnt out replace them or get a new starter, rebuilding is cheaper and easy. Let us know how it goes

Try turning your engine by hand with the plugs out. If it doesn't turn easily, pull the drive and try it.

Welcome aboard. 10659.

I was in deep water last week and hit something. A log was barely below the surface and I only saw it behind me after running it over No damage for me, but deep water means nothing.

Try what henley and bruce suggested first. Get the starter turning the motor over first. Check all the power and grounds, make sure all are shiny, bright. You can take a starter to an AutoZone or other major auto parts chain for testing.

On your stutter and die problem, how fresh is the gas? And change the fuel filter. The jolt could have stirred gunk up in the tank.
