Hey...great site.

I need to replace the battery for my 95 merc 3.0.

Is 650 enough, or should I go w/ 1,000 for the new one?

Just looking to save $15 or $20.

I chucked the old one in the fall and can't remember which one it was.

Re: new battery

650 is plenty for a 3.0L. 650 is plenty for a V8. Assuming you're talking about CCA.

Re: new battery

Hi! yes this is a great site!! I agree with Don. 4 cyl don't take much to turn them over. so i would save your $$$$$. and we all need to save some of that. so i dont think you could go wrong with the 650. Good day and God bless GP

Re: new battery

With the money you saved, you might get a battery box installed on the boat, the USCG will stop asking why you don't have one.

Re: new battery

A battery box is not required. Only a method to restrain the battery, and covers over the terminals.

Re: new battery

As usual, Don is right, no box is required.
Don, I was referring to the average boater.
You know the guy, he never saw the USCG regs, much less read them. I can kill two birds with one stone with a battery box.
In Milwaukee we have:
1 Milw police boat
2 Milw harbor patrol
3 Milw fire dept
4 Milw rescue boat
5 USCG
At this time of year, all of them are training new people. Let's pull this boat over for a routine safety inspection, so we can show the new guy/s how it's done. Because it's not warm here yet, if you venture of on the water, every agency on the lake front and rivers will pull you over, because you're the only boat out there. I was present one day when a debate started over whether a cut off one quart plastic oil bottle was an approved terminal cover.

Re: new battery

Under normal circumstances an average boat engine does not see the temperture extremes that a car engine endures. Therefore, CCA is not a big deal.

But, you know how guys have that "Tim Taylor" attitude.... more power! :D

mkast,

Not a bad idea. I'll likely do just that. I'm up in Canada and pobably won't be on the water for another few weeks (hopefully).

And you're right about cops training people. I'm a journalist a did a ride-along one spring with the local police force out on the river. It was May and we pulled over every boat that passed us.

Thanks for the advice guys.
