IMG_0624.jpgemail.jpgHello all. I'm looking at a biminni top for my 1990 Larson senza 210 lx. Just got a price from a local guy for $1000.00 This is for a custom made all stainless pipi and fittings. sunbrella top, solid support bars holding it up and keeping it open so there is no straps. Was wondering what you thought of the price. Also i wanted to go with red but he warned me that the red fades really bad quick. Any experiences with the red or any thoughts of what color i should go with. Hopefully you can see the pic of my boat. Any thoughts of what to do????

The light blue lasts the longest. $1000 is slightly on the high side but a lot depends on the hardware you are getting and where you live. Since you are doing no straps, that increases the price. You having zippers and side curtains added?

Would have thought I could tell where you live from your registration numbers but those are very hard to figure out!

Re: new biminni ????

I own an upholstery shop and I can tell you a few things about that top:

1) If he is creating a top custom designed for your boat, making it so it has strut poles (the solid support bars), and using all SS tubing/fittings, the price is more than fair. Just make sure that the struts have pull pins with rings so you can still lay the top down. And don't trailer it with the top up & spread out.

2) Red does have a tendancy to fade, but not as quickly as you think. I've made mooring covers out of red that baked in the Florida sun for 2-3 years before you notice any significant fading. If you collapse and store the top in a boot (that should be included as well), you will minimize the fade. The other option would be to match the boat with a white top and red trim.

I'm here in cold upstate ny. No side curtains. This guy i got the price from is said to be a little more expensive but he is supposed to be the best in the area. He said he would come look at the boat where i got it stored to look at measurements and to see how we are going to mount it... Don't want it mounted on the inside and because of the windshield don't think we can mount it on the top rail. But he said he could make some bends to probably mount it on the top rail. Light blue on this boat????? Will it look goofy

The bimini on my 23'er is blue, 16 years old and still servicable. The rig is stored outside in the Florida sun.

He said he uses sunbrella red and says it fades to almost pink after a couple years. I think the red would look the best. Sunbrella website says it has a 10 year warranty. maybe i'll call sunbrella and talk to someone there

Now you're talking! The admiral and I are planning to move to the shore of one of the Finger Lakes when I retire. Probably Seneca. She's Binghamton born and raised, and I went to SUNY-B myself.

Also, if you really LIKE the red, you could take the time to use 303 fabric protectant a couple times a year on the top and that should greatly reduce the fade issue as it is a really good product that I beleive is the only thing recommended by Sunbrella to use on their tops.

If you like red...get red. If you only leave it up when you are actually using the boat and keep it in the boot when you aren't, you will be fine.

Re: new biminni ????

So I've been doing some looking around. what do you think of this top http://biminitops.iboats.com/Bimini.../6632/?**********=162211871&*******=636681530. Also is there a huge differnce between aluminum and stainless steel. I can get this top and rear supporting poles from Iboats for $413. I would just have to find some good side mount plates and i would also get supporting poles to hold it open so i would have no straps. I can't believe it would be too hard to mount on? Any thoughts???

Re: new biminni ????

So i did from figuring from last year. There was only 6 or 7 days i would have even used the bimini. So is it worth a 1000 dollars or go with the aluminum one from above

This is just me personally.....but unless I was boating in saltwater, I wouldn't spring for the SS.
