New boat and questions

I traded a 86 Ranger 373 V bass boat in on a "like new" 2003 stingray 200 LX. Test drove the boat and really liked it she ran up to 48 mph and @4600 rpm for us.
Boat is a 5.0 alpha drive with a new and recoommended OEM black 21 pitch prop. I did notice she porpoised some at spped but thought it was just me and the first run learning to trim the boat.

After reading 10 million posts I believe it is a common problem to 19 degree boats and sting rays. I believe I will put on the naticus trim tabs and go to a 4 blade 21 pitch alumium prop to get it up on plane quick and maintain 20-22 mph for boads and skiing. Not into all out speed...for now.

Any recommendations, experience, and advise would be appreciated.

Re: New boat and questions

We had a 185LS and never had any issues with porpoising. On some other boats, I eliminated issues with trim tabs so I think that should do it for you. I think before you spend the money on the tabs, you might want to run the boat a few more times and experiment with your outdrive trim.

Porpoising is pretty common with the Stingrays. I have to tilt the drive down pretty far to keep it from happening. From all I have read, smart tabs do an excellent job of damping out this effect without too much (if any) effect on speed and mileage. Worst part is drilling the holes and making sure they are sealed.
