New boat....Force 50hp question.

Picked up a 1991 Bayliner w/ a force 50 hp outboard. It doesn't have electric trim at all...normal? The throttle switch has the trim/toggle button on it.

The other thing is I was wondering if someone could show me a picture of the mechanism that holds the engine in the upright/tow position? The one for this boat is broken. Specifically the passenger side of the engine mount hardware. The previous owner just uses rope to tie the motor in the up position for towing. I don't want to continue the band aid process...I want to fix it right. Also, how hard is it to add the trim back?

That motor came standard without T/T.It was added as an option. The shifter came with the controls for T/T as it was cheaper to get them mass produced. That shifter went in thousands of Bayliners.Only the 50 didn't have T/T.Putting the T/T isin't hard just finding the right parts can be fun.
Boats.net has diagrams for that motor.J

That's cool about the trim. Not too terribly critical.

But what about the piece that locks the motor in the up position for trailering? What is it officially called so I can start researching how to either repair or replace it?

One last thing. Took the boat to the lake today for the first time. Had a good time. Thinking that 50hp isn't quite enough for me, but it will suffice for a bit. The only problem is that when I try to use reverse, nothing has the engine locked in the tilted down position, so it tilts it's self up. Isn't there something that should lock it down? I wish I knew more terminology so that I can research more! LOL! ahhh....to be a newbie! ;)

Yes there is a lock down mechanisim.Should be on the same diagram as the other parts.valleysales@charter.net this guy can probably help.
Go to boats.net and look at this diagram.Make sure the transom mounting brackets match.
Mercury Force OutboardParts 50 H.P. (1991) 507E91B SWIVEL BRACKET AND STERN BRACKETS (MANUAL TILT MODELS) The parts for locking it up and down are there. If you can't figure it out then post a pic and maybe I can get a list.J
