anyhow i would like to know how to go about cleaning the boat..

first the boat is a klamath 12.4 ft aluminum
it has been sitting for a long time and needs some cleaning what can i use ??
there seems to be maybe oxidation or water stains calcium on the aluminum and interior paint.

Re: new boat needs help

Welcome to iboats.

Before you run the engine again there are things that need to done to insure it keeps running.

The water pump is made of rubber and it cracks over time so that will need changed and also your lower unit oil and sparkplugs then see how it runs after that but I imagine unless it was stored corectly with no gas in the carbs those will need rebuilt too.

A motorboat with no motor isn't much good.

As to the hull, a super fine Scothbrite pad and alot of elbow grease is probably your best bet.
Someone recommended Fantastik spray cleaner and if you scrub in one direction it will give the hull a grain like new aluminum.

Re: new boat needs help

i drained the lower unit oil and it was clear but i still changed the lower unit oil.
the plugs looked very clean with no oil residue on it when pulled..
the first thing i did when i got it home was pull the plugs and spray wd40 in the cyl.it sat like that for a day and i turned the engine over without the plugs installed..
put them back in with new fuel line and gas primed it and it started on secound pull and i must say it runs very good a smooth..
water was peeing out of it do i still need to replace the waterpump??
how do i change it is it hard??

You should still replace the waterpump. After all that sitting the rubber impeller could be very brittle and could fail on you your first time out. It's an every couple years preventative maintenance item anyway. Need to know what motor you have to tell you how hard it is.

Re: new boat needs help

ok i dont know much about boats so here is what i came up with..

on the owners manual it says 9.9d/9.9ed 15d/15ed.i think mine is the 15d

going by what the book tells me {the id fill in that the dealer fill out} the model number is 15shp code 684cs and serial number 092766 i checked on the motor and these number are on it..

now here is another question do i have to use yamaha lower unit oil??that was the first thing i changed and i did not use yamaha oil instead i used the stuff i got a walmart.

how about 2 stroke oil yamaha?? i was thinkin about useing the redline oil what are your guys opinions..

Re: new boat needs help

15 is probably the absolute max horsepower for that boat so it will most likely fly! There are a lot of opinions on here about oil but I personally use whatever's on sale. For the 2-cycle oil as long as it's TCW3 rated it will work fine. For the lower unit oil you don't have to use Yamaha either. When I went to change mine the first time I went to Pep-Boys and they were sold out of regular lower unit oil and I didn't feel like driving around looking for it so I had to buy full synthetic which was hella-expensive. Now I'm afraid to switch back so I've been using it ever since.

Wally World has a great deal on full synthetic gear oil . . . Super Tech is their brand. I just switched to that in my Bravo 1. I think it is 85W90 or 75W90 . . .
