I recently picked up a 14' crestliner/trailer and a 1952 7.5hp mercury rocket outboard. The boat belonged to a friends dad and has been sitting 5+ years and has no paperwork. By looking at pics I've come to the conclussion thats it's a crestliner 810 speedster in the 58 to 61 year range.(it has a 62" hood over the bow). The stamped serial number is 810 20304. Is there anyway of telling what year it is by the S/N? I'd also like to put in a steering system but don't know if thats possible with this motor. The motor is a tiller type with a throttle adjustment bar that slides across the front of the motor. Also I don't know how, if at all, that something could be made to remotely control that. Any ideas are needed. Thanks and this a is a great site with lots of info.
