new boat... no temp gauge?

Hello! New boater here... I recently purchased my first boat, a 1990 Maxum 2100 LDC with a Force 120hp L-Drive. I noticed that it does not have a temperature gauge. I'm wondering why it wasn't OEM installed. Isn't a temp gauge important to have? Is this something I can install easily?

edit: sorry, I didn't mean "NEW" boat (as in title)... just that it's new to me.

They don't normally install them. You have a horn that will sound very loudly (if its working properly) if the motor over heats. The sensor for it is on on the head. You can test it by turning the key on and then momentarily grounding the lead going to it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll go looking for it to test it this weekend.
