So over the weekend we had a blast in my 18ft maxum open bow(as usual) but I’m starting to get the itch to upgrade. This boat confirmed the bug is in me to stay and I have been looking at a new(er) model glastron gt 205 (the current hull style) but after this weekend I saw how well some of the hallett’s Cut through any chop or wake off other boats like they just don’t care. There are a lot of Halletts running around out here and man there is just something about how they look! Mainly the 210 21ft open bow. Is there anything else I should be looking at in the 20ft open bow category? I like my little maxum but it gets caught up in every chop the lake/river throws at her. The halletts are a helluva boat but my budget puts me into the early 90’s boats,

1. Is it wrong to throw the halletts into consideration
2.is there anything else I should be looking at
3. How do the gt 205s Handel chop out on the lake.

I have a 2018 Glastron GT 185 and if you are looking to go in any waves over 6-9 inches you should look elsewhere. My boat handles terrible in waves, once of my favorite boat trips is now out except on good days because of how bad it handles. I can't speak to the other brand you are thinking of but I can't imagine them being worse than the Glastron. I'm sure with a GT 205 you could handle 6-12 inch chop just fine but much more and it's a rough ride. Maybe I am just spoiled by my old '77 Crestliner Crusader 550 which while small handled just about any wave I could throw at it.

One of my neighbors had the new Glastron 225 (forced to buy new due to being cash poor). Definitely the most entry level build I've ever seen in a modern bowrider but was his first ever boat so made some sense for him. The Glastrons are a light build and not going to be as good in the chop as a heavier boat that likely will have a steeper deadrise as well. Can't imagine a 205.

My Stingray is not a good big water boat. Its great for my lake and small waves on a nice day but when the wind blow up it can be a real experience.

Ahhh, good 'ol two foot(or more)-itis. Know that feeling well, glad you like your current boat and want more.

I think in the size you're looking for, hull-shape and space in the boat are tied very closely. If you get a hull shape that handles choppy water better, you'll compromise on space in the boat - and vice versa.

I am not familiar with Hallets, just looked at a few pics, they look fun. But I think you have to consider the compromises
