New boat owner, found a chip in hull

Hello everyone, I'm a new member/boat owner as of last Friday. I bought a 1993 Sea Ray Bowrider 200 (third owner). Original owner had interior and motor redone in 2008, and second owner didn't have time to use the boat as much as he liked so the interior looks close to great (a small amount of mildew) and the engine purrs (4.3 mercruiser). We took it out yesterday and it did great, but today I found a small chip in the hull (looks to be from a rock while on the trailer). Should I be worried, and if so, is Marine Tex the way to go for a fix? How do yall think I did for my first boat? Thanks for any help and opinions.

Welcome to iBoats!

Your pics came out a bit small. 640x480 is the recommended size. I would recommend for a chip that size to just purchase a gelcoat mending kit. Clean the chip real well with some acetone and then fill with the thickened gelcoat. Sand and buff and it will be nearly invisible.

Nice Score on the Boat!!!;)

Well, the pictures are really small, but if I'm seeing the chip right it's like 1/16" x 1/4" right? If that's the case unless it just really bothers you....I wouldn't do anything to it.

Yup..looks like air voids..

Dont do Anything to them until you do something that would require a "fix" .. wait until next year to fix them.

If you like you can razor blade some Tex in there ( I mean flat razor and no sanding ) if it makes you feel better.

YD.

Do what you want, but I'm anal and don't like chips that I can see.

Thanks for the advice yall! I will try to get some bigger pics of the boat up soon. The chip is only about 1/16" X 1/4", I am kind of anal, but I think I can let it ride until the season is over. I wasn't sure if something like this would evolve into something major without any attention. She needs some new stripes so maybe I can tackle it all at once.
