I just bought a streuy 1976 115 outboard merc. Im really green at this stuff so this question is prob going to sound dumb. I have two gas tanks external. Its a two stroke 6cyl now im wondering if i need to mix my gas with oil. i believe they are 6 gallon tanks. And im assuming there is oil in the outboard as well? Sorry in advance for my newbie status.
Thanks in advance

First, Welcome to Iboats Mercury outboard forum.Yes your motor is a 2 cycle motor which requires premixed fuel 50:1 so with a 6 gallon external tank you would mix 2 pints of 2 cycle TC-W3 for 6 gallons. there is no oil in the engine it is lubed with the gas/oil mix.I would also recommend you service the water pump or make sure it is good condition. The lower unit should also be checked for oil condition (this is gear oil should be clear or maybe alittle black but not milky).Check back with any questions and you will get an answer.Good Luck..

Re: New Boat Owner

This is really cool i must say. Im very excited to enter the world of boating as is my family. We have 1 boy who loves fishing and three daughters who love tubing so this could be a season full of memories. I will pick up the recomended oil and also figure out checking the gear oil.
The water pump on the other hand, im guessing i should do some internet surfing to figure this one out.
