New boat test drive

I'm test driving a new Northriver Seahawk tommorow and if I like it in the water I'll be buying it. Currently it has a brand new 150hp Yamaha 4 stroke on it. <br /><br /> I'm going to really put this boat and motor thru its paces and am wondering what will happen to a new motor if it treated in this fashion? <br /><br />I'm concerned about buying a new motor after its been treated in this manner. The salesmen says its not going to hurt a thing and break-in of new motors is overrated. <br /><br />Would you accept this motor or would you want a replacement? I

you should check the yamaha manual...<br />i believe they ask you to keep it under <br />a certain rpm reading for the first 4-6<br />hours of running.<br />maybe the motor has already gone through the<br />break in period ?

If it were me, I'd treat it as it were my own if I intended to buy it. Do they not have a demo model? I'm a bit suprised that they let there customers break-in their motors. Makes ya wonder..

This motor is brand spanking new,thats why I'm concerned. IIRC my current motor had a 10 hour break-in period.

They don't have a demo models,thats why I'd be driving the boat I may buy. The problem with treating it like I want to buy it is that I'd never get to see how it performs in real life conditions.

first thing yamaha askes for on a blown motor is a laptop download. if the motor has 5 hours total and 4.5 of them above 5 grand you may or may not have an issue. its under the abuse and neglect clause and honda has the same clause.<br />on a two stroke breakin is not so critical on a 4 stroke there are a lot of moving parts at the party, they all dont have to get along but they all have to be there.<br /> myself I would follow the breakin as per the manual to aid in insureing maximum life and minimum wear. that goes for honda as well.

That's a tough call. I guess I would then run it like I felt and rely on Yamaha's 3 year warranty. Unless of course, they ask about the break-in and you tell them the truth. Could be a problem...
