So, I got a great running good condition Sea Ray 175. It was a family friend so he sold it for me at a great price of $3500. It runs great and is in great condition.

It has the 4.3 Mercruiser in it.

So, here's my first question. On the throttle it has trailer button and trim up / down. The trim up down works in the water for trimming and leveling out correctly. The trailer button lifts it all the way up.

My question is, the up button on the trim just works in the water. Is that correct? Besides towing the boat, do I ever use the trailer button while the boat is in the water or before pulling it out of the water like in shallow water?

My first inboard outboard in 35 years, all have been outboards.

You can use the "trailer" button anytime -- just NOT with the engine running. That button is just what it says -- Trailer (or it could say "Docked" as well I suppose. The "Trim" button also works anytime -- in the water or not. Running the engine with the outdrive "out of the water" risks water pump impeller damage.

Okay, thanks. The trim tab itself seems like the up button only works when the boat is engaged. There's up/down trim then a separate trailer and that's what confused me.

So the trailer tab can be used in shallow water plus docked or trailering?
