leaks in power trim top ram rubber looks messed up. Is installing gasket kit for lower unit tough? Ive dropped few mercury lowers never a yamaha. I have 2 problems just to clarify tilt ram gasket plus lower unit was like whitebrown milkshake fluid was low. I think its ok and willing to put some gaskets in see if gears are working good.

Power trim is probably orings internal that a leaking, will need to disassemble to replace.
Lower unit oil leak- need to pressure check to see where it is leaking and then see if you have the proper tools to pull and replace the seals. may need to pull shafts or carrier to replace them. If water was in here very long you may have rust pitting on bearings and gears

I got lower unit off and dropped, there is some white greasy stuff around shift rod. Wonder if this seal is problem. Plan on ordering new water impeller and all seals plus shifter seal. Can i put ATF in lower unit while I figure this out.

I guess you can put ATF in there, but why not flush the gearcase and fill with correct gear oil?

Seal below water impeller is allowing alot of air through also shifter seal is leaking. Looking at ordering new lowerunit seal kit,impeller kit maybe new shifter cover plate,impeller metal housing. Could the seal below water pump be installed backwards? I can see one with metal coil facing down. Looking at manual and diagram looks like there should be two of these. Going to pry it out and have a look.

does the manual tell you how to remove and replace the seals and what tools and equipment are needed to perform that? And do you have those?
read before you dive into this to make sure you can do it properly. Some seals require a special tool to install or at least measuring how far to drive them back in and some require the shaft to be removed. just thinking ahead.

I tried Harbor Freight $12 snap ring plyers that point down nice solid kit. Anyways the cap will not budge. Is it righty tighty lefty loosy? $115 for cap removal tool worth it? Are there online factory instructions on tilt tube posted PDF.

seems to me the best thing you could buy is a genuine manual, not a cheap download or a generic one, you are trying to do things and asking questions that you should probably know if you are attempting the repairs you mention. A service manual will be a must to properly do the gearcase seals and the trim pump and ram!

I agree, I have been an ase master tech for 20 years, when i started boating I bought factory service manual, It sure makes everything easier
