Hi, all...
My name is Rob and I am from the west Michigan area. I recently sold my 20' pontoon boat (had to convince my wife, haha) and will be getting a speed boat. I have been boating all my life and have owned a few small speed boats boats in the past, and my dad had a nice '87 Sea Ray Seville when I was a kid. I have always liked Four Winns and am leaning toward one. My year range of what I can afford would be from the early 90's up through 2000 or so. I am going to look at a '92 220 Horizon bowrider tomorrow. It has the 5.0 OMC (Ford 302) It is being sold on consignment by a local dealer that sold it to the customer new and has done the regular maintenance/winterization on it since. I have been told the mechanicals are sound, but from the dealer pics, the boat has some minor cosmetic issues..needs a good cleaning, detail and wax, a couple seats need repair, out-drive needs cleaning/paint. Looks like it was kept moored in the water. The guy I spoke with said these costs could be worked into the selling price. I am looking to get more bang for my buck by going with an older boat, especially around here where the seasons are short. How are these boats as far as any quirks, etc? I hate ones that are a pain to start...I know this is a carbed boat and it scares me, haha... Even though it is a little 'ol 302, I would also be interested to know if anything "fun" can be done to the engine or performance...upgraded carbs, ignition, stainless prop choices, trim tabs?? This will be a family boat, but I like a little "dad" fun, too! If it were me, I would probably lean toward a Liberator...but my wife isn't into the go-fast boats and wants a lot of deck space/comfort. So, any input would be helpful... Thanks! ----Rob
