I am looking at a new boat, does anyone have an opinion or prefance between a fiberglass or alumaiumn boat.
looking at a Lowe or Alumna Weld 17' with a 70 hp. I fish manly rock bottom lakes, what are the advantages and disadvantges to these types of hulls in a rock bottom lake?

Metal last longer with little up keep. I would rather patch a hole in the metal than fiberglass too. Just my opinion and the aluminum ones weight less and use less gasoline and dont need deep water

Re: New boat

Aluminum will take a low speed rock hit much better than glass.
Glass rides much better on rough water than aluminum.

Re: New boat

Thanks for the replys, I was leaning toward aluminum but have never had anything other than fiberglass. does anyone have a brand prefrance, I will be useing it for bass fishing with 2 people most of the time but i would like to have the ability to take out 3 people (need 3 runing seats), my goal is to stay between 15'-17' so i can stilll get back into small shallow coves. are there any 15 footers that would be stable enough with good preformance and speed around 40 mph + in this size with a low water draw, i need to mention that it is important that it have a steering console and not a tiler, my current tiler boat is killing my back on long runs.

Thanks to all for the advice

Re: New boat

The 14' Lund in my sig. has a side console and to be honest it does get a bit cramped with 3 people. 15' are going to be much more rare than a 16'. I would suggest looking for a 16' Lund Rebel or Mr Pike. Both models can be found with a console. They are going to be large enough for 3, ride well and are very well built and have been in prodution for many years. Also there is the Alumacraft in a number of models in this same class along with Sylvan and Smokercraft. Many of these have been around sense the early 1980s and can be found for reasonable prices. Those are what I'd be looking for!
