Well, I dont post here much, but I do lurk, trudging through the abyss of knowledge here.

I have been working on my project boat (Pursuit 2150 Express) and its finally completed. looking great, running like new, and its currently for sale local. I have two very interested buyers that are waiting for spring for a sea-trial. Ill be sad to see her go, but on to bigger and better things-

The wife and I decided that the V-berth was just too small, and with the plan of kids in the future, we needed more room. So we bought a new boat, well new to us. We picked up a 1987 Carver Montego 2757. We took the sea trial back in Sept. it was nice, sufficient power, great shape, handled well. A week later, we struck a deal, the boat was delivered to the house in Oct. The slip has been paid for for the coming season.

Over all the condition of the Carver is in excellent shape, needing very little work. I have removed the stereo, and speaker and replaced with more modern units (fusion) along with a new VHF radio. Powering the boat are twin 190 mercs., FWC and decent hours. I will converting to alternators and solid state ignitions. There are a few things that need to be done to make the boat "ours". The sale included full winterization, spring commissioning, and launch. I have tested and re-tested, and tested again every system on the boat. All are operating as designed. the only problem that I have come up with is the starboard tach is glitchy. I have removed it and clean the connections. I will see in the spring if that will repair the problem. If not, no worries, I will be replacing all of the gauges, at some point in the next year.

I will add some pics soon. I always have a problem posting pics here.

Re: new boat.....

thanks,

I have read some horror stories regarding these motors. It seems that the motors are either rock solid reliable, or they are not. My cousin had a Carver Santego for over 15 years. He was running the same motors. Other than keeping on top of routine maintenance, he installed alternators, and solid state ignitions. at over 2000 hours, he had no problems when he sold the boat last year.

Our new boat was well maintained, and it will continue to be. I plan on keeping right up on the maintenance. The previous owner stated that he was getting a leak at one of the water pumps, he had both water pumps replaced. Upper exaust manifolds and starters have been replaced. These parts only have about half a season of use. Full tunes ups were performed last season and only have been run during sea-trail and winterization. Both motors have the larger merc. heat exchangers. With plans of upgrading to alternators, and solid state ignition systems should help with reliability. I will also be sending both carburetors out for re-man prior to launch.

If the motors start to cause heartache, I will repower the boat, probably with something a bit more modern, and more reliable.

Hey, we're in the same boat. Literally! We just bought a "new" to us '87 Montego 2757 as well. Ours was repowered with twin Merc 305's. The new motors have 224 hrs on them since 2003. A few cosmetic fixes and we're good to go for the upcoming season. I've always loved the layout of this model.
