I just picked up an 84 Bayliner cuddy 19 ft with the Volvo AQ 125a and 270 outdrive. This boat had a cracked exhaust manifold that the previous owner had welded but did not reassemble. I could use some input on the cooling system. The tilt unit does not seem to be working (the switch has the wire ends cut off). This whole boat needs rewired! I would like any advice for maintanence like spark plugs oils etc. Can I use automotive grade parts or do I have to use marine grade? Thanks for any and all help!

Welcome to iboats!

Your questions about the motor and outdrive will be better answered if you post them in the Mercruiser, OMC, Volvo & other I/O & Inboard Engines & Outdrives section.http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21

Wiring questions will be answered in the Electrics, Electronics and Trolling Motor section. Pay attention to the stickies at the top; there are several generic wiring diagrams there.

There are few automotive-grade parts that can be used. Anything that can create a spark (other than spark plugs) MUST be ignition-protected. This includes the starter and alternator. The distributor must also be a marine-grade unit to ensure it has the proper advance curve.
