I just recently bought my first boat and she's a honey, the price was right. i'm relatively new to all this but i have learned a lot in the last few days reading these forumns. Any i am now the owner of a 14.5 1972 Chrysler Tri-hull with a 1973 50hp johnson 2stroke powershift 2. I took it right to boat shop as it sat for 2 years and they got it going and said the motor looked and sounded good. the first run went well, but i guess i dont know what to expect as i have nothing to compare it to. what can i expect for top speed with this setup , someone told i should be getting 35 mph no problem. I know my spedometer might not be totaly accurate but its reading 25-30mph and the tach seems to off the charts at 6000rpms and looks likes it could go more if it read higher. The plate on the motor suggest running at 4500-5500. I'm wondering if a new prop with more pitch would result in less rpm, more top end speed, and possibly better fuel economy cause this sucker can drink it. The prop on it right now is 13 1\4- 17 pitch aluminum in just fair shape. I assume if i continue to run with these high rpms i'll cause some damage. I'm planning on doing some sking and biscuiting next summer so if anyone has suggestions for more speed let it come. p.s great forumn guys
