new boater needs prop advice

I have a 2301 seaswirl walk around, 225 Evinrude ficht. current prop 3 blade 17p. problem is at wot the rpms go up to 6900. should be around 5900 according to the owners manuel. Am i correct in thinking I need a different prop so i can run at WOT? Thank You in advance DP!

Lets verify the tach first. The rev limiter should kick in before that. <br /><br />What tach are you using?

Its the electronics that wont allow the motor to rev past a given point. Most motors are at either 6200 or 6700.<br /><br />Have a dealer read the system with their laptop. That will verify what the rpm has been. If its indeed 6900 then we can look at props & such.
