New boater/new owner, 70hp '88 Merc, what's this line?

New to me boat has the above-mentioned motor, and this line hanging off the front of the lower.

What is it? I would expect a water pressure line to be up on the powerhead.

I think its just a breather line. My buds '86 115hp has the same deal, but its a different style hose.

Or the pitot for the speedometer.

You should look down on the leading edge of the nose of the LU and see if you can spot a small hole. If it is there, that line is a speedometer tube which you would attach to another running forward to the gauge.

I have the same motor. It is the line that feeds the speedometer.
