Hey all,

I have bought my first boat and motor this year. 66 seaking 12 ft. and 68 merc thunderbolt 500 50 hp. good projects both I feel to give me tinkering experience. I just wanted to say I was super stoked to find this forum.

Welcome. 12 ft and 50hp. You may want to upsize the boat or downsize the motor.
If not your next post may be in the "Stupid Human Tricks" section.

Welcome to the forum. We have a tradition here......STAYING ALIVE. Get a larger boat or a smaller motor, please.

Re: new boater new to forum

well, "tubs" (thats what everyone around here calls motor less boats) are a dime a dozen in this part of the state and after reading your posts I went and looked at a 17 foot deep V in pretty good shape. I think I can talk the guy down to $400 this spring. thanks for the advice and concern on my behalf.

What were the worst dangers I was looking at? I hadn't noticed any issues when the previous owner took me out in it. I have never been out by myself in it yet either though as it quit pumping water and I have to order parts.

This is the place to be if you love boats and making them go. There are plenty of old school boaters here that can help with about any boat question you have. Before I removed the magneto on my 50 year old mercury I asked here how to do it and was told how...welcome
