New Cable, or new steering kit??? Help Please!

I recently bought my first boat and have found one of the steering cables under the console to be frayed out to where the inner cable is showing. The cable is marked as a Detmar, H5 14ft. I have read enough to find out that this manufactuer is no longer around and have seen some of the new steering options on the market. The setup on my bass boat has two cables coming from an "H" shaped spring loaded aluminum mechanism from under the console that I am guessing is the rack and pinion. My major problem is that all of the "Teleflex" rack and pinion systems look different than what is presently on my engine (150hp Evinrude btw). So do I look for a single cable to replace the one, or is there a gauranteed "fit all kit" offered that will totally replace my current rack and pinion and mount to my rig with no problems???

You will just have to go with a complete Teleflex system. That's as close to a fit-all as you can get. You realize of course that fit-all might mean fit-nothing and require some work.

go to the much more friendly Teleflex, no feed back rotary system, that engine has a lot of torque, and the no feedback will be money well spend. next best to the hydrolic. i've had the all, for the money this is the best.

Will I need to go with a two or single cable rotary system for the motor that I have(150hp Evinrude)? It is currently a two cable system.

Jam, You can use a single cable system on a 150HP OB. I have a rack system on my speedboat with a 150HP Merc, for example. If you adjust the fin above the prop, you can minimize the torque of the motor.
