I want to recarpet my 16' sea nymph - I see people don't think carpet belongs in smaller boats but I like and it looks nice. There is one spot that seems a little soft so I may be adding new wood. If that is the case 1/2" treated seems to be the choice and I keep seeing people saying to glass it? Is that always the case when carpet is going over top? Could you not just put some lacker or something?

hey dyers

the reason people dont like carpet..is it traps water...and holds it next to the deck...thus promoting rot....but aside from that...i also like carpet in boats....
with proper storage it can last a long ...long time

the reason for glassing the deck...is to keep the water out of the deck wood...simple things like water seal dont work....

there is many types of different ideas for carpet. the choices are endless.

the 1/2 inch pt ply is also my choice.....the pt ply must be bone dry of it wont accept resin.

another choice of ply is exterior ply...it doesnt need to be dry...and once the wood is enclosed it wont matter too much......one will last 15 years...one 20....so its really a coin toss as to what you use....

search...this thread.....its in its idea stage ..but there is still very valuable information on it
