Hey guys! I just finished up with finals in college so now I have a month long break. I was thinking of replacing the carpet in the ole Searay. I spend alot of time in the boat in the summer so I would like it to look nice. The boat was a complete mess when I got it. Since I've had it gave it a mechanical run through and anything that was bad I replaced. I spent about 2 days buffing on the hull. It came out beautiful (in the pics its still dirty from the mighty mississippi). I put new black pinstripe and tinted the windows. Now its time to rid the orange brown carpet. Im trying to get a second opinion on the carpet choice. My dad wont give me any input on it because he thinks its pointless to put money in a boat thats worth $1000. Anyway heres a link to the carpet Im thinking about. Let me know what you think. It has pretty good customer reviews. The color is driftwood.

I'm going to start tearing out the old stuff today. I'll put pics up as I go along. Sorry they might not be the best quality cause there with my blackberry.

heres a link to the carpet I'm thinking about

Hey I'd recommend the Marine vinyl over carpet, cabella's has it, but I found it cheaper elsewhere. Its easier to clean and it won't hold water which rots out hte floor, I'm supprised you don't have soft spots in the floor already in a 78.

Make this another vote against carpet. I put the standard BassPro brand carpet in my last boat. It was like velcro for dirt. It was tough to even vacuum the dirt out. Plus I dumbly chose a dark color (navy) for the floor and it always looked dirty. If you DO go with carpet go with a color that won't show the dirt as well. (actually now that I read again the color you picked should be optimal in that respect). I plan on going with marine vinyl or a non-skid coating like Durabak for my current project. Still deciding....

Thanks for the input, I haven't looked into the vinyl yet but I definitely will. He's some pics of what I've done so far. It only took about a hour and a half. Yeah I am very lucky not to have any rot in the flooring. I already had to rebuild all the seats and bases as they were all rotted out. However there is one 1'x1' spot behind the ski locker that is slightly soft. It shouldn't be to hard to fix because above the tank isn't fiberglassed its just plywood.

Here's where I'm at now. I got some carpeted panels on the sides that might take awhile to get apart.

Here's a closer view of the spot that had some rot. It looks like the vertical support rotted out and then made the flat floor crack up and get soft. I think I;m pretty lucky on this boat. It sat outside for 20 years with only a cover on it. Last season was the first time it has ran since then.

Well I was taking apart the carpeted side panels and I found 2 of these miller cans. Can't find a born on date but they're pretty old. I found them back behind a screwed in panel. My gramps must have been boozin work'n on the boat! haha

Well I guess I'm kind of at a stand still for now until I get some carpet. I ended up ordering the "Cabelas Premium Boat carpet" in "Driftwood." Hopefully the color is good one.

Now I'm thinking about carpeting where the dark brown leather is on these pics. That vertical pattern just makes the boat look really old... which it is.. but I'm still young!:)

Well after almost 2 days straight of installing the carpet and rebuilding a few trim pieces I'm finally done. I put in the Cabelas Premium marine carpet. I think it turned out better than I ever thought it would. It really gives the interior a new good look.

What do ya think?

I completely redid the dog house. It used to be all dark brown vinyl. Im really happy with the way it turned out

looks good

I understand the arguments about not using carpet, but there's nothing like new, plush carpet to make everything feel "rich".

Thats exactly how I feel. I'm a young guy and there's lots of in and out on this boat so the vinyl would make better sense. I just don't think the look between vinyl and carpet compare in my application being an older boat and all.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Did you fix the rot? Seems pointless if you didn't. Looks good though.
