New cat hare and have a spark question.

Hey all,

i just got a 86 Johnson 28 SPL. I ran it today for the first time and it ran fine for a few minutes perfect and then at full throttle it surged/bogged and then died.

I checked for spark and it had none. what can i test to check for the problem?

cdi electronics troubleshooting page should list your ignition system with voltages given...you'll need a dva adapter for your multimeter, or a mm with that capability.....the factory service manual , not clymer or seloc, would have these procedures as well..ebay or ken cook co. are sources for them

also i read that NGK (R) plugs are know to kill power packs, any validity to this?
