Sounds like a cable problem. Is the problem that the cable will not pull the shift lever enough to engage? Or is the problem in the control box itself?

Also what were you doing to make it shift and no throttle and then throttle and no shift?

Was it an adjustment or where you switching the cables?

I'm not familiar with the console control you describe, but.......

Console control units usually consist of the control lever being pulled out sideways to disengage the shift operation which in turn allows throttle to be applied in neutral. Another type control has a large knob that one pulls out to disengage the shift operation.

The one inch idle button you speak of is foreign to me. I'd appreciate having someone knowledageable of that item explain its function.

Thanks everyone for your help especially you reevesJ32,your answer made me try to find a control same as mine and I did! it is a bombardier binnacle top mount control and further research told me it came off a suzuki motor. My problem was i was hooking cables paralell to each other, I needed to hook one in front of control and one in back, a quick call and a forgotten cable mount holder is on it's way. THANK YOU ALL!
