New controls for older moter

I recently purchased a 1984 E35ELCRR that came with a non-functioning control box. I have had a hard time finding a replacement control box. Then I found an adapter harness (Part #: CDI423-6344) that claims to "Adapt 1995 & Older Johnson Evinrude Outboard Engines to New Controls".
Does anyone have any experience/advice doing this sort of thing? And what type of new controls would be compatible with the functions on this motor?
Throttle/Shift/Electric start. No tilt/trim.

New to this forum and looking forward to learning more about this old motor.

:welcome: aboard Alayne17. Nice to have you join us...

Looking at your model engine, the correct remote control system for your engine is part number 0394083. You may find used ones but not new. They are not available anymore. However, Depending what is wrong with yours, you can buy replacement part to make it work again. There really isn't that much to them other then some cables and wires. Exactly what is wrong with yours? If you would like to see a break down of your control system, go to www dot boats dot net. Of course remove the dot words. Then type in your engine model and year and then select the remote control unit for your engine and have a look. But post back here with what is wrong with yours. JMHO

Thanks for the welcome! I've found the parts list for the remote control but unfortunately mine is missing one half of the cover, the handle, the main cam....just to name a few parts, probably 70 % of it is missing/broken. I've found a few on ebay that I'm watching, so maybe some luck there.

That sounds like a great plan. If you had to buy all those parts, it would certainly cost more then buying a used total unit. And even if your used unit needs some parts, they can be found here and there. Post some pictures of what you are working on. We love pictures on these forums.
