Today I pulled up the last of the vinyl covering on the work deck. This allowed me to inspect the topside of the plywood decking. I was pleased to see the ply is matted and no signs of delam or rot. The previous owner had carpet squares laid over carpet over glued vinyl covering. I tossed the carpet as soon as I bought the boat last Oct.

And I took up the decking over the fuel tank (separate cover held in place with screws). This allowed me access to the bilge on the back third of the boat. I cored the orginal foam in 9 locations, as far as I can tell she's as dry as a bone. :)

Because I'm planning a new deck layout plus I just want to see the condition of the hull so I'll be taking up the existing decking. If I figure out how to post pics here I'll have lots to show.

That deck project may wait while I schedule my other project: patching the exterior hull and spraying new gel. I'm her 3rd owner. The first guy rode her hard for the first 22 yrs; the 2nd guy was a hack and had a reverse midas touch(even though he had her less than a yr, he hacked the wiring, fuel system, and engine timing); now it's my turn and I have latent OCD/perfectionist tendencies with skills in wood and glass.

Being unemployed I am accepting donations. It's for a good cause. Think of the children.

Create and account at photobucket.com and then you can create links to the pics. Its easy. There are some instructions in the non-boating tech forum i believe.

I'm curious about your powertrain

Could you confirm the motor is a 351? Volvo wasn't using that engine in the '80s.

also, you have a 270T, power trim outdrive?

Get some pics up!!:)

Thanks for your reply.

Yup, it's a Ford 351 Windsor block alright. Waukesha of Clinton, IA provided at the least the engine if not the engine/drive to HydroSwift.

The drive does have infinitely adjustable trim. The original manual says it's a T270 (as opposed to 270T). It would be great to find an original trim indicator for the dashboard. What I have now is a up/down toggle with one orange light. The light is supposed to indicate full up or full down but stay illuminated all the time except for full up. And there is no way for what I have now to indicate a trim other than full up or down.

BTW: I pronounced it "Wha Kee Shaw" until a guy who's been in the business for years told me it's pronounced "Wok E Shaw".

Wilco on the photobucket.

EDIT: my avatar is the boat on Lake Powell.

Well that makes sense. If you figure out how to post pics, post some of the engine.:)
